MLK Day of Service
A bunch of us from Render, the college/careers ministry I direct, met at 7:45am & booked it out to World Impact in St. Louis. I absolutely love World Impact for the work that they do in the inner city of St. Louis. My friend Katherine always does a fantastic job pulling everyone together to make a difference. Last I heard, she was responsible for getting around 60 volunteers for MLK Day of Service, but I’m sure it was probably more. From the World Impact building, we took off for Turner Middle School in St. Louis & teamed up with United Way & Americorps. They were...

The irony of life amazes me sometimes. I had a conversation with my mom around 2 weeks ago about possibly teaching a photography class somewhere & within a couple of days, I got a Twitter message about just that from one of the coolest professors you’ll ever meet. In fact, he really played a huge part in my final decision to attend Greenville College. So, to make a long story short, I now teach a college photography class; it started on Monday; I’m excited & thankful for the opportunity. I know I referred to all of this as irony, but truly, without a doubt, I believe God...

I recently gave a talk entitled “Begin With the End in Mind.” The title comes from Chapter 2 in a book called “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.” In this talk, I spoke of the importance of setting goals of not just where you want to end up at the end of your life, but who you want to become in the process. I decided there was no better way for me to get my point across than to write my own eulogy. (**Note: Yes, there will be a Zoolander reference or two) The next few paragraphs will contain my eulogy. I debated putting up something so personal, but if this even...

On the morning of May 29th, 2008 at 9:33am, I hopped into my car to drive to St. Louis for a photo shoot until I realized someone, the night before, decided to help keep me cool & well oxygenated for the summer by giving me another open window. Apparently, in his opinion, the four windows I can roll down with the power buttons will not sufficiently work well enough. Surprisingly, however, the someone who bashed in my window stole nothing! Of course, he would have only had the option to steal my B-I-B-L-E (that’s the book for me!), some leadership CDs, and a picture of me, Chuck...

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and He will direct your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6 This week, I took a trip out to Omaha, NE. This time away from home has given me a lot of time to think & reflect on my life. I wonder how I ended up at this very place. What events & what path did I take to make this happen? I have felt moments of loneliness, confusion, and sadness & yet somehow I have this overwhelming sense that God has His hand on my life and that He loves me deeper than I could ever...
