“Whatever you do, do it in kindness & love.” 1 Corinthians 16:14
Have you ever had one of those days where none of the events in it seem to unfold as planned? You wake up and realize you need to leave for work in 10 minutes. On top of that, you can only find one clean sock, you burnt your delicious toast breakfast (YEAH TOAST!!), & somehow you locked your keys in your car.
Now these hardly qualify as horrific experiences, but maybe at times you find yourself in severe, heartbreaking situations. Maybe you feel things in your world crashing down all around you & you just need someone to reach out to. What friend can you always count on?
Who will pick your heart up off of the ground for you, embrace it like it belongs to them, & hand it back to you with moving words of encouragement because they whole-heartedly believe in you & your dream?
Author Joyce Landorf Heatherly refers to this affirmer as a “Balcony Person.” She says that the heart of a balcony person will always love, listen, & care for your heart. Who can you identify as a balcony person in your life? I’d suggest making it known to them how much you appreciate their encouragement & love.
More importantly, you need to ask yourself, “Am I a balcony person to someone in my life?” Then, make a list of those people you feel God has placed in your heart & start affirming them.
Heatherly states, “The need for affirming one another is crucial to our process of becoming real, not phony or hypocritical, people of God. Affirming brings authenticity & credibility to our faith as it is lived day by day.” I pray that as believers we will show the kindness, mercy, & love that Christ has shown us by affirming & helping one another step out in faith to realize the dreams that God has place in our hearts.
God bless you guys; I love you so much!
